Choirs
6th Years singing Fauré's Requiem
Choir is a long standing tradition here at St Joseph's Mercy Secondary School where it is a core subject for all students. The goal of choir class is to enhance personal and social development through regular choral singing, which forms part of the music learning experience that is so valued in our school. Choir class promotes vocal development, sight reading and performance skills. For students who take Music to Junior and Leaving Certificate, choir offers the opportunity to boost the performing element of the Music syllabi and correlates music learning in the classroom.
The Music Department has an extensive Choral Library which holds repertoire from a variety of genres including classical, folk, musicals, popular, sacred, modern, Irish, etc.
We endeavour to give our students opportunities for public performance as much as possible, and past choral performances have included A Choral Evening (2006), Fauré's Requiem (2007), Vivaldi's Gloria (2009) and An Evening of Music (2011).

All School Choir
St Joseph's All School Choir sing at a high standard with a challenging repertoire in a variety of genres. The choir membership ranges from 1st to 6th year and rehearse once weekly after school. Entry to the choir is by interview. The choir formed in 2008 to sing Vivaldi's Gloria in D where they combined with both 5th Year curricular choirs, soloists, and an accompanying ensemble that included harpsichord, organ, clarinet and trumpet. Since then, the choir has performed a variety of genres and has represented the school with success at choral festivals in Cork, Dublin and Navan.
The All School Choir is dedicated to more challenging choral repertoire especially a capella and contemporary works. Each year the choir includes a piece by a contemporary composer from around the world. In 2011, the featured composers were Michael McGlynn from Ireland and Anne Boyd from Australia. At the school's choral concert in March 2011, the All School Choir demonstrated this focus on modern works with Poulenc's Litanies a la Vierge Noire. President Higgins on his visit to the school in 2012 praised the choir for their "spirit and enthusiasm."
